The population and the people

Back in the late 80ties there was a lot of talk about a New World Order. This idea came with the improved relations between the capitalist West and the so-called communist East and the ultimate collapse of the Soviet Union.

While the term New World Order was new at that time, the processes that it designated was far from new, however. The collapse of the Soviet, which left the United States of America as the worlds single superpower, was but the last in a long process that has continuously strengthened conformity over variety.

This process can be traced at least as far as the 17th century, where the far-flung empires of the industrialised European countries started to emerge. Foreign cultures were destroyed by way of cannon and shotguns. Areas that had once been composed of hundreds and hundreds of city-states and tribe-like groups were being brought together to form enormous kingdoms.

During the 19th century this process really caught on. European empires governed supremely over other the whole world. Surely the stories about English forces marching through Beijing during the opium wars - the Beijing which had only been discovered a couple of hundred years before - can only have been seen by people at that time as, yes, a New World Order. And the New World Order wasnt merely operating outside Europe. Inside Europe the unification of language and customs to create large, artificial nation-states really speeded-up during the 19th century.

And then came one of the biggest unification scams at the end of the 19th century: The two ideologies of liberalism and communism destroyed all other ideologies.

Slowly but surely the conformity within the workers' movement as well as within the bourgeoisie was assured. This was done by freezing-out those people with diverging ideas as happened to Proudhon in the first International.

The last ideology to bow to political unification was Nationalism. Blaming it for the outbreak of World War II - even though the real reasons for the war was imperialism as well as ordinary human greed and lust for power - crushed nationalism. After WWI the leaders of Europe proposed dividing Europe up into nation-states as the solution which would end war forever. The coming of WWII, which the nation-states could not prevent, made people disillusioned with all ideas associated with Nationalism. So many hopes for peace and prosperity had been put into the idea of nation-states just to be crushed in the raging nightmare of WWII.

So, after the war, people could not but be angry at Nationalism which had so utterly failed. Hence Nationalism was made to blame for the war, while it was completely innocent in that matter, and all Nationalist ideas were flushed out. This includes not only the idea of a large nation-state but also the very love of heritage and culture.

During the 20th century political unification has continued. From the manifold ideological fountain of the 17th century we have gone to only two ideologies (communism and capitalism) and finally, with the fall of the Soviet Union, only one all-dominating ideology: capitalism.

And not only in party politics has the world become more uniform. In all scientific disciplines, in world politics, in terms of culture and philosophy, in terms of religion; in all ways an increasing conformity has emerged over the years.

There is today only one superpower (USA) and only a very few, dominating religions and American culture is increasingly threatening old traditions and lifestyles.

So is this conformity - this New World Order - bad? Yes, I say it is

First of all the New World Order with its conformity and careless materialism vipes out the heritage of the world. It negates culture and destroys the environment and it creates a chilling cut-throat environment within any country it gets near. That alone should be enough to pinpoint it as a bad thing. But there is more

The New World Order is also in violation of the very laws of nature! The natural world is built on evolution. Evolution again is built on progress, which cannot exist without disorder and continuous change. The game of evolution demands a disorderly playing field so to speak. Hence the world which the New World Order heralds - with its visions of global, conform oneness - is completely opposed to everything natural.

Of a more practical nature is another of my concerns about the New World Order: it creates political conflict. As power is being centralised the fight between different interests groups and political factions become more fanatic. Its pure logic: if there is only one centre of power the struggle to control this centre will be so much more violent.

This destroys the process of diverging groups to work together for the benefit of all of society as it makes it impossible for everybody to live the way they want.

If power was decentralised and given to the local authorities then everyone could have their own little community in which to live, as they preferred. Socialists could rule in one city, nationalists in another and religious people in a third. Everyone could have his or her way.

The New World Order is in complete opposition to this.

Look at the New World Order-influenced political situation of today: We have racialists who accepts only race as a factor for identification, we have socialists who only care about social class, liberalists who only care for individual identity, humanists to whom only their connection to human kind counts, feminists who care about nothing but their sexual identity, religious fundamentalists who think only people's religious allegiance is important etc.

All these people are, in reality, quite alike: They all put one of their identities above the rest. None of them, apparently, sees the ironic fact in this.

I believe that a human personality is created by not one factor but a thousand factors. Race, nation, class, religion, sex all this is part of everyones personality.

This realisation is the key to defeating the New World Order:

The values proposed by the New World Order are those of conformity, materialism and rationalism and globalisation. These values are now the ones that dominate completely this world.

In this situation we need a movement and an ideology that will stand up for the opposite values of variety, spirituality, mystique and the local community. These values are, I believe, inherently embedded in all ancient cultures and religions and in the spirit of all true idealists.

Hence the conflict of our time is not between people of different ideology, religion or culture but between all idealistic, religious or nationalistic people on one side and those who care only for material gain on the other.

We, who care about anything but money, must stand together in order to bring down the New World Order. We must stand together to carry forth the values of variety, spirituality, mystique and localism! These values must be the focus of our society if it is not to become cold and dead. A good economy is needed to keep us alive, yes, but it is spirituality and mystique and emotion that we live for. If creating more money is the only goal for society it will become inhumane and cold.

There is no such thing, I think, as good or bad ideologies or good or bad religions or good or bad cultures. Every culture, religion and ideology harbour good and bad traits. We who care about our heritage must realise this and come together to bring down our common enemy: the indifference, the resignation, the economic profit mongering, the cultural rectification and the political unification, in short: the New World Order.

As the New World Order has progressed to take over the political agenda another trait has followed in its wake: While politicians used to refer to the public as the people they are now increasingly using the term the population to describe the general public.

This can only be seen as a reflection of the way they view us! A population is passive and sheepish; thats what they think we are! Thats what they want us to be!

Well let us show them otherwise lets be a people! A people is active and cannot easily be bossed around. A people control its own destiny. A people makes clear if it is unhappy.

It is time to stand up to the New World Order and prove to those who might think differently that we are the people and not just a bunch of goats (a population)!

Down with the population! Up with the people! Down with the New World Order!
